The 2012 Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Open Golf Championships
tee off at 8 a.m. today, with 44 boys and girls competing in the 13
& Under, 14-15 and 16-17 age groups at St Andrew's Golf Course,
Moka.
The three, six and nine-hole competitions will be held today, tomorrow and Wednesday.
Competition in all the age groups is expected to be keen,
especially in the Boys 11-13 age group with St Lucians Daronhill
Mauricette and Jonathan Bruce and Barbadians Xzavier Wiggins and
Christopher Cobley expected to provide a stern test for their Trinidad
and Tobago counterparts, including Sachin Kumar, Liam Bryden, Chad
Phillip and Sol Johanni.
Wan Ju Lee and Dinesh Jackree, teammates on the T&T squad at
last year's Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships (CAJGC), will be
among those battling it out in the 14-15 age group.
The 16-17 boys category looks to be an open contest with
Jean-Marc Lawrence, Robert Boocock and Axl Bailey the main contenders,
while the girls 16-17 category is a straight contest between Christina
Ferreira and Arianne MacKenzie.
The girls 14-15 category is headed up by Ysabelle Lawrence and
Keziah Bailey, both of whom represented Trinidad and Tobago in the 2011
CAJGC.
In the girls 11-13 category, Dominque Monrose from St Lucia will
try her hand against Ana Ferreira, Sabrina Mitchell and 2011 national
representative Serena Mackenzie.
Krista Kent from Tobago will also make her debut in this year's Caribbean Junior Open Golf Championships.
There are more than 86 juniors competing in the different divisions over the three days.
