A PENAL family fought back when armed thieves held them under siege at their home on Sunday evening.

Isabelle Hanulal, the proprietress of Isabelle's Bar, at Penal Quinam Road, told police she returned to her home at around 5 p.m. with her three children, aged 22, 16, and ten, when they were confronted by two men armed with knives.

They were forced into the house where Hanulal's husband, Simon, was asleep.

The husband awoke to find the thieves had held his family at knife-point. He handed over $4,000 worth of jewelry.

The thieves also demanded cash, and Steven was sent into the business place for the money. Police were told he returned with a cutlass which he handed to his father who fought with the suspects.

The thieves ran from the house and the parents taken for treatment at the San Fernando General Hospital for stab wounds.

The father remains warded in a stable but serious condition.
